Description:
The words ' Edward I ' are written in the top margin. The tale of how King Edward frees Balliol and the rebel Scots from prison, and how after Balliol retreats overseas, the Scots choose the ribald William Waleys (Wallace) to be king. King Edward travels to war in France, but a truce is agreed. The Scots plan further war against the English. Red rubrication at the bottom of the folio introduces the beginning of the next tale. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

//þat is to seyn S(ir) Joh(a)n of Comyn and þe erl of Stratthorn. þe erl of Carrik. and also .iiij. bisshopes vndertoke for al þe clergie and so þe king delyu(er)ede ham and ȝaf ham sauf conduit to wende in to hire owene londe. // and it was nouȝt longe aft(er): warde þat þey ne arisen aȝen king Edward for enchesou(~) þat þey wiste wel þat king Edwardus folc .was take in Gascoig- ne as bifore is saide but S(ie) Joh(a)n Bailloil king of Scotland wiste wel þat his lande shulde haue sorwe and shame for hire falsnesse and in haste wente him ou(er) þe see to his owen landes and þ(er)e helde him: and come neu(er)e more aȝen. wherfore þe scottes chosen to hire king William Waleys a rybaude an harlot comen vp of nought and muche harme dede to þe En- glisshe men // And king Edwarde þouȝte how he mighte haue delyu(er)aunce of his peple þat were take in Gascoigne and in haste went ouer þe see in to fflaundr(e)s for to werre oppon the king of ffr(a)unce. and þe Erl of fflaundres vnderfeng him wiþ muche hono(ur) and g(ra)untede him alle his landes at his owene wille // And whanne þe king of ff(ra)unce herde telle þat þ(e) king of Engelonde was arryuede in fflaundres. and come with an huge poer him for to destroye. he prayde him of trewes for .ij. ȝere. so þat englisshe marchauntȝ and also frensshe myȝte saufliche gon and in boþe sides // þe king Edward g(ra)un- tede it so þat he moste haue his men out of prisoun(~) þat were in Gascoigne. and þe king of ff(ra)unce. g(ra)untede anon an so þey were delyu(er)ed // And in þe same time þe Scottes sent by þe bisshop of sent Andrewes in to ff(ra)unce to þ(e) king and to S(ire) Charles his broþer þat S(ire) Charles shulde come with his poer and þey of Scotlande wolde come with hire: and so þey shulde gon in to Engelond þat londe for to des troye fram Scotland til þat þey come to kent and þe Scot- tes triste muche vppon þe ffrenshe men: but of þat þing þey had no man(er)e g(ra)unt // And noþeles þe Scottes bigonne to robbe and quelle in Northu(~)birlande and dede muchel harme How William Waleys lete sle S(ire) Hughe of
