don him gret harme þorugh his werre: and þ(t) he shulde at þe last ben maister þorugh helpe of a reede ffox þat shulde come out of þe north west and shulde him ouercome and þat he shulde drif him vnto þe water. and þ(t) p(ro)phecie ful wel was knowe: for wiþinne a litel time or þe king deide. Symo(~)d of. Mountfort erl of leycestr(e) þ(t) was bore in ff(ra)unce bigan aȝens him st(ro)ng werre: þorugh which doynge many a good ba cheler was shent and ded and disherited // And whanne king Henry had þe victory at Euesh(a)m. and Symound þe erl was slayn þorugh helpe and myght of Gilbert of Clare erl of Gloucestr(e) þat was in kepynge and warde of þe forsai- de Symounde þorugh ordinaunce of king Henry þat wente aȝen to þe king with muche poer: wherfore þe forsaide Sy- mounde was shent and þ(t) was gret harme to þ(e) comunes of Engelond þat so good a man(~) was shent for treuthe and deide in charite and for þe co(~)mune p(ro)fite of þ(e) same folc and þ(er)fore almyghty god for him hath sithenes shewed ma- ny a faire miracle to diu(er)se men and wymme(~), of þe siknesse and disese þat þey haue had for the loue of him // And M(er)lyn also tolde and saide in his p(ro)phecie þat aft(er) þ(t) time þe lambe shulde leue no while: & þanne his seed shulde ben in st(ra)- ge londe wiþoute pasture: and he saide soth. for king Hen- ry leuede no while after. whenne Symounde Mountfort was ded þat king Henry ne deide anon aftir him // And in þe mene time sire Edward his sone þat was þe beste knyȝt of þe world of hono(ur) was þo in þe holy lande and gette þ(er)e Acres // And in þat cuntre he bigate in dame Alianore his wyf Joh(a)ne of Acres his doughter þat aftirward was Con tesse of Gloucestr(e) and he made in þe holy lande such a viage þ(t) al þe worlde spak of his knyghthode and euery man drad him hye & lowe þorugh out al C(ri)stendome as þe story of him telleth as aftirward ȝe shulleth here more openly // And fram þe tyme þat king Henry deide til þ(t) sir Edward was crouned king: alle þe grete lordes of Engelond
