Description:
There is an ink annotation 'Aliens' in the left margin. The words 'Henry 3' are written in the top margin. The tale of how King Henry renews the franchises King John had made in the great charter, and takes back the castles his father John had given into foreign hands. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

of þe popes legat þat men callede Swalo of þe sentence þ(t) he was in and þe barou(~)s of Engelond also // and aftir þis king Henry and Swalo þe legat and lowys wente vnto mertone and þere was þe pees confermed and bitue[n] ham ordeigned and aftirward lowys wente fro þennes vnto londou(~). and nome his leue and was brought w(t) muchel hono(ur) at þe see. w(t) þe Erchebisshop of kaunterbery. and w(t) oþere Bisshoppes and also with erles and barou(~) and so wente lowys in to ff(ra)unce. //And aftirward þe king and þ(e) erchebisshop and erles and Barouns assemblede ham at londou(~) at Migheles masse þat next þo come sewynge and held þ(er)e a p(ar)lement and þ(er)e were þo renewede alle þe ff(ra)un chises þat king Joh(a)n g(ra)unted had at Roumemede. and king Henry þo confermede ham by his chartre þe whiche ȝit beth holden þorugh out al Engelond // And in þat tyme þ(e) king toke of eu(er)y plough lande .ij. s. and Hubert of Burgh was made þo chief Justice of al Engelond. and þis was þe. iiij. ȝere of king Herries regne: and in þe same ȝere was sent Thom(a)s of kaunterbery t(ra)nslated þe viftiþ(e) ȝere after his martirdome // And after it was ordeigned by alle þ(e) lordes of Engelonde þat alle alienes shulde gon out of Engelonde and come no more þ(er)inne: and þe king nome þo alle þe castels in to his hande þat king Joh(a)n his fader had ȝeue and taken in to aliens for to kepe þat helde with him // But þe prout Faukes of Brent richely let arraye his castell of Bedeforde þe whiche he had of þe kinges ȝifte.
