of god king of Engelond gretinge to ȝoure uniu(er)site and kno we þing it be þat for as muche þat we haue greued and of fended god and oure mooder chirche of Rome. and for as mu- che as we haue nede to þe mercy of oure lorde i(es)hu crist and we may no þing so worthy offre competent satisfacciou(~) to make to god and to holy chirche but yf it were oure owene body as w(t) oure reaumes. of Engelond and of Jrlonde. Thanne by þe grace of þe holy gost we desiren for to meken vs for þe loue of him þat mekede him to þe deth. on þe crois: þorugh counceil of þe noble Erles and barouns. we offren and frely g(ra)unten to god and to þe apostelis sen Peter and sent Paul and to oure moder cherche of Rome and to our holy fader þe pope Innocent þe þridde. and to alle þe popes þat cometh aft(er) him al þe Reaume and Patr(o)nages of chirches of Engelonde. and of. Jrlande with alle þe app(ur)tenaunces for re- missiou(~) of oure synnes. and helpe and helþe of oure kynne soules and of alle c(ri)stene soules: so þat fro þis tyme afterward we wile resceyue and halde of oure mooder chirche of Rome. as fee ferme doynge feaute to oure holy fader þe pope Jnno- cente. þe .ijj(e). and to alle þe popes þat comeþ after him in þe manere aboue sayde // And in p(re)sence of þe wyse man Pan- dolf þe popes suthdekene we maketh liege homage as it wer in þe Popes p(re)sence and bifore him were: and we shulle don alle manere þinges aboue saide and þ(er)to we byndeth vs and alle þat come(~) aft(er) vs and oure heyres for eu(er)emo wiþouten ony gayn seynge to þe pope and ek þe warde of chirches vacauntȝ and in tokene of þis þing eu(er)e for to laste. we wil co(~)ferme & ordeigne þat oure specials Rentes of þe forsaide reaumes sa- uyng sent petrus pens in al þing to þe mod(er) chirche of Rome paynge by ȝere a thousand marc of Syluer at two termes of þe quer for alle man(er)e customes þat we shulde done for þe for seyde reaumes. þat is to seyn at Migheles masse and at Estr(e). þat is to seyn .vij.
