The word 'John' is written in the top margin of the folio, and there is a small hole in the vellum. The tale of how the two legates arrive in England from Rome, and how King John will not agree to having Stephen as the Archbishop of Canterbury. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

to North(a)mpton(~). þere þat he helde his p(ar)lement: and ful curteisly þey him saluede and saiden. sire we beþ comen fro þe pope of Rome þe pees of holy chirche and of þe lande for to amende // And we moueste ȝow ferst in þe Popes half þat ȝe make ful restituciou(~) of þe goodes þat ȝe haue rauisshed of holy chir che and of þe lande and þat ȝe vnderfonge Stephene Erche- bisshop of Kaunterbery in to his dignite. and þe. priour of Kaunterb(er)y and his monk(es). and þat ȝe ȝelde aȝen vnto þe Er- chebisshop alle his landes and rentes wiþouten ony withhol dynge // And sire ȝet more ouer þ(t) ȝe such restituciou(~) ham make as holy chirche shal halde hire paied // þo ansuerde þe king as touchinge þe P(ri)our and his monk(es) of Kaunt(er)bery al þat ȝe haue saide y wil gladly do. and al þing þat ȝe wil ordeigne // But as touching(e) þe Erchebisshop y shal telle ȝow in myn herte as hit lith: þat þe Erchebisshop lete his Bisshop riche. and þat þe pope þan for him wolde praye: and þanne vppon auenture me shulde like som oþ(er) bisshopriche for to ȝeue him in Engelond and vppon þis condiciou(~).
