The word 'John' is written in the top margin of the folio. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'A' introduce the tale of how King John destroys the order of Cisteaux, and of his continuing argument with Rome. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

in to þe kinges hande alle here landes of holy chirche þat were ȝe uen vnto eny man þorugh þe Erchebisshop Stephene or by þe P(ri)o(ur) of Caunterbery fram þe time of þe elecciou(~) of þe Erchebisshop and comaunded þat alle þe wodes þat were þe Erchebisshoppes shulde ben caste a doun vnto þe g(ro)unde and alle solde How king John destroyede þe ordre of Cisteaux Ca(o) xl(o) ix(o). And in þe same tyme þe Jrisshe men bigunne for to werre vppon king John(~). and king. Joh(a)n ordeignede him for to wende in to Jrlande. and lete arere an huge taxe þorugh out al Engelond þat is to seyne .xxxv þousand marc and sente þorugh al Engelonde to þe monkes of þe ordre of Cis teaux þat þey shulde helpe him of sixe .M(l). marc of siluer // & þey ansuerede and saide þat þey dorste no þing done wiþoute hire chief Abbot of Cisteaux. wherfore king. Joh(a)n. whanne he come aȝene from Jrlonde he dede ham so muche sorwe and care þat þey nysten where for to abide. for he toke so muche raun some of eu(er)y hous of ham þat þe somme amountede .ix. M(l). & .iij. C. marc so þat þey were clene lost and destroyed and voy- dede hire hous and here landes þorugh out al Engelonde // And þe Abbot of Wauerseye dradde so muche his manace þat he forsoke al þe Abbay and wente þennes and p(ri)ueleche ordeigne- de him ouer þe see. to þe hous of Cisteaux // Whanne þe ty- dinge come to þe Pope þat þe king had done so muche mali- ce: to was he toward þe king ful wroth: and sente .ij. legates vnto þe king þ(t) on me callede Pandolf and þat oþ(er). durau(~)t. þat þey shulde warne þ(e) king in þe popes name þat he shulde cesse of his p(er)secuciou(~)þat he dede vnto holy chirche and amen de þe wrong(es) and þ(e) trespas(es) þat he had done to Erchebisshop of Kaunt(er)bery and to þe p(ri)our. & þe munk(es) of Kaunt(er)bery and to al þe clergie of Engelonde and þ(t) he shulde restore þe goodes aȝen þat he had taken of ham aȝens hire wille and elles þey shulde curse þe king by name. and to done þis þing and to conferme þe pope toke ham his l(et)res in bull patentȝ. // þese .ij. legates come in to Engelond and comen to þe king
