Description:
The words 'Henry 2' appear in the top margin, along with ink annotation in the top and right margins 'thys byll mad the iiijth day off may' in a different hand . The tale of how Henry, Henry II's father forgives him. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'A' introduce the tale of how the Christians lost the Holy Land. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

wroth: and cursede þe time þat eu(er)e he ham bygat. and while þe werre durede Henry his sone þe newe king deide sore repentynge his mysdede and most sorwe made of eny man for cause of sent Thom(a)s deþ of Kaunterbery and p(ra)yede his fader w(t) muche sorwe of h(er)te m(er)cy for his trespas and his fader forȝaf it him and had of him gret piete and after he deide. þe xxxvj ȝer of his regne. and lith at Redynge. How þe c(ri)stene men loste þe holy lande in þe forsaide kinges tyme þorugh .o. fals c(ri)stene man þat bicom [...] a saraȝyne Cap(o) Centesimo. xlm(o). And while þ(t) king [...] Henry þe Emp(er)esses sone leuede. and regnede. þe g(re)te bataile was in þe holy lande bituene þe c(ri)stene me(~) and þe Saraȝynes. but þe c(ri)stene me(~) were þ(er)e quelde þorugh gret tre- soun of þe Erle of Tripe þ(t) wolde haue had to wif þ(e) quene of Jherusalem þat sum tyme was Baldewynus wif. but she forsoke him and toke to hire lord a knyȝt a worþy man. þat me called Sire Gy. P(er)cheȝ: wherfore þe Erl of Tripe was wroth and wente anon right to Saladyn þat was Soudan of Babiloigne and bycome Sarasyne. and his man and forsoke his c(ri)stendome. and al c(ri)stene lawe. and þ(e) c(ri)stne men wist it nouȝt of þis dede but wende for to haue had gret help of him as þey were wonede to haue bifore: and whanne þey comen to þe bataile. þis fals c(ri)stene ma(~) t(ur)nede vnto þe Sarasines and forsoke his owene naciouns and so were c(ri)stene me(~) þere quelde. wiþ þ(e) Sarasines and þus were þe c(ri)stene me(~) slayne and put to horrible deth. and þe citee of jh(e)r(usa)l(e)m destroyede and þe holy croiȝ born away// þe king of ff(ra)unce. and alle þe grete lordes of þe lande lete ham croice for to gon in to þe holy lande. and among ham wente Richard king Henr(y) sone ferst after þe king of ff(ra)un- ce. þat toke þe crois of þe Erchebisshop of Turs: but he nome nought þe vyage at þ(t) tyme. for enchesoun þat he was lette by oþ(er)e manere weyes and nedes to ben done. // And whanne king Henry his fader had regned xxxv(ti).
