Thom(a)s Beket his chaunceler was cho- sen to ben Erchebisshopp of Kaunterb(er)y. and vppon sent Bernar- des day he was sacrede // And in þat ȝere borne was Aliano- re þe kinges douȝt(er) // And þe .x(e). ȝere of his regne. sent Ed- munde þe king was t(ra)nslated wiþ muche hono(ur) // And þ(e) .xj(e). ȝer of his regne. he helde his p(er)leme(~)t at Norh(au)mpton: and fro þennes fledde sent Thom(a)s Erchebisshopp of Kaunt(er)bery for þe grete debate þat was bituene þe king and him. for ȝif he hadde be founde:- in þe morne he hadde be slayne and þ(er)fore he fledde þennes with .iij. felawes in foote only þ(t) no man wiste where he was and wente ouer þe see. to þe pope of Rome // And þis was þe p(ri)ncipal enchesou(~). for as muche as þe king wolde haue pult clerkes to deþe þat were atteynt of felonie wiþoute ony p(ri)uylege of holy chirche // And þe .xij(e). ȝer of his regne was John his sone bore. and þe xiij(e). ȝer of his regne deide Maud þe Emp(er)esse þ(t) was his moder // And in þ(t) same ȝer was.
