The header 'Harold' appears in the top margin. The tale of how Harold is put in prison by Duke William, but is released after swearing to marry his daughter. How Harold returns to England and is crowned King, breaking his promise to William. How Harold fights and overcomes King Harold of Denmark. Red rubrication at the bottom of the folio introduces the next tale. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

þat was Richardes mooder duk of Normandie. þat was Ayel þe duk William // And noþeles whanne þe duk Willi- am had Harold in p(ri)sou(~) and vnder his poer for as muche as þis Harold was a noble knyȝt wys and worþy of body and þat his fader & he were accordede w(t) þe goode kyng Edward and þ(er)fore wolde nought mysdone him. but alle maner þin- ges þat bituene ham were spoken and ordeignede Harold by his goode wille swor vppon a book and vppon holy seintes þat he sholde spouse and wedde duk Williames doughter after þe deþ of seynt Edward. and þat he shulde bisely don his deuere for to kepe and saue þe reaume of Engelonde to þe p(ro)fite and auauntage of Duk William // And whanne. Ha rold had þus made his oth vn to Duk Will(a)m. he lete him gon and ȝaf him manye riche ȝiftes and he þo wente þennes and come in to Engelond: and anon dede in this manere whan sent Edward was dede and as a man falsly forswore he lete croune him king of Engelond and falsly brak þe coue- nauntȝ þat he had made byfore w(t) Duk William wherfore he was with him wonder wroþ and swore þ(t) he wolde op- on him ben avenged what eu(er)e so him bifell // And anon William let assemble a gret ost and come in to Engelonde to avenge him vppon Harold and to conq(e)re þe lande ȝif þ(t) he mighte // And in þe same ȝere þ(t) Harolde was crouned Harold Harestrenge kyng of Denmarc arryuede in Scotland and thoughte haue ben king of Engelonde and he come in to Engelonde and quelde and robbede and destroyede al þat he myghte til þat he come to ȝork and þ(er)e he quelde many men of armes a .Ml. and an .C. p(ri)stes // Whanne þis tydinge com to þe king. he assemblede a strong poer and wente for to fiȝte w(t) Harold. of Denmarc. and wiþ his owene hande him quelde. and þe Danoys were descomfitede. and þo þat lefte a lif wiþ muchel sorwe fleyen to here shippes and þus king.
