The header 'Edward confessor' appears in the top margin. The tale of how the two pilgrims wake up in England, and go to King Edward to give him the message from John the Evangelist. Red rubrication and an illuminated intial ' A ' introduce the tale of how King Edward becomes ill. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

arise vp and wende we in oure way what sayde þ(t) o. felawe to þat oþ(er) where be we now // Certes sayde þat oþ(er) it semeþ me þat it is nought þe same cuntr(e) þat we layde vs in for to reste and slepe. for we were þo fro jer(usa)l(e)m but .iij. miles // þey nomen vp hire handes and blessede ham. and wente forth in hire way and as þey wente in hire way. þey sawe sheperdes goinge w(t) here sheepe þat speken non oþ(er) langage but englisshe // leue frendes q(uod) on of þe pilg(ri)mes what cuntr(e) is þis and who is lord þer of. And on of þe sheperdes ansuerde: þis is þe cuntre of kent in Engelond of þe which þ(e) goode king Edward is lord // þe pilg(ri)mes þankede þo almyghty god and sent Joh(a)n Eu(au)ngelist and wente forþ in hire way & comen to kaunt(er)bery and fro þennes vnto Londou(~) and þ(er)e þey fonde þe king and tolden him al fro þe biginny(~)g vnto þe ende as muche as sent Joh(a)n had ham charged and of al thinges how þey spedde by þe weye and toke þe ryng to king Edward and he vnd(er)fenge it and þan- kede almighty god and sent Joh(a)n Eu(au)ngelist and þo ma- de him aredy eu(er)y day f(ra)m day to day for to wende out of þis lyf whan god wolde for him sende How sent Edward deide on xij. day Capitulo. vjxx. xmo. And aft(er) it bifel þus on c(ri)stemasse eue as þe holy man Edward was at goddes s(er)uice matyns for to here of þat hye feste. he bicome ful sike and in þ(e) morwe en- durede wiþ muche peyne þe masse for to hure and after lete him be lad in to his chambre þere for to resten him: but in to his halle among(es) his Barouns and his knyȝt(es) might he nought come ham for to comfort and solace as he was woned for to done at þat worþy fest: wherfore al hire merþ(e) and comfort amonges alle þat were in þe halle was turned in to care and sorwe: for enchesoun þat þey dradde for to lese hire lord þ(e) king // And vppon sent Jones day eu(au)ngelist þat þo come next þe king vn derfeng his rightes of holy chirche as falleþ to eu(er)y c(ri)stne
