Description:
The text begins imperfectly in the rubrication at the top of the folio at 'come a(g)ain vnto king Edward'. The header 'Edward confessor' also appears in the top margin. An illuminated initial ' T ' introduces the tale of how two pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land meet John the Evangelist, who bids them take a ring to King Edward, and to tell him that in twelve days he will be in heaven. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

come aȝen vnto king Edward. Cao. Centisimo.xxixno. This noble man sen Edward regnede. xiij. ȝere and þ(us) it bifel vppon a tyme biforn er he deide þat .ij. men of Engelond were wente to þe holy londe and hadden don hire pilg(ri)mage and weren goynge aȝen toward here owene cuntr(e) //And as þey wente in þe weye þey mette a pilg(ri)me þat cur- taisly him saluede and axede of ham in what lande and in what cuntre þey were borne / and þey seyde in Engelond. // þo axede he who was king of Engelond. and þey ansuer de and sayde. þe good king Edward / ffaire freendes þo sayde þe pilg(ri)me. whan þat ȝe come in to ȝoure cuntre aȝen y pray ȝow þat ȝe wolde gon vnto king Edward and ofte tymes him grete in my name and often tymes þanke him of his grete curtesye þ(t) he to me haþ done: and nameleche for þe ryng þat he ȝaf me whanne he had herd masse at Westmynstr(e) for sent Jon(es). loue Eu(au)ngelist and nome þo þe ryng and toke it to þe pilg(ri)mes and sayde J p(ra)y ȝow for to gon and bere þis ryng and take it to king Edward and telle him þ(t). J sende it him and a ful richere ȝifte y wile him ȝeue: ffor vppon þe .xij.(e) day. he shal come to me and eu(er)more duellen in blisse. wiþouten ende // Sire sayde þe pilg(ri)mes what man be ȝe and in what place is ȝoure duellyng // ffaire frendes q(uod) he.
