Description:
Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' T ' introduce the tale of how King Edgar discovers Edelwold's deceit, and how he meets Estrilde and falls in love with her. The text ends imperfectly at the bottom of the folio at 'hertes'. 'Gret plente' is added at the bottom of the folio. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

// And whanne þis was done: he þouȝte þat he was siker ynow of þe king. for bifore þat tyme þis Edelwold had drede lest þe king Edgar wolde haue taken his wyf for as muche as his lord was a joly man and an amerous. How þat king Ed gar weddede Estrilde after þe deth of Edelwold Co. Cmo. xiijmo. Thus it bifel þat alle men in king Edgar(es) court þo spe- ken and saide þat Edelwold was richely auaunced þorugh þe maraige þat he had by his wyf. and ȝet þey say- den he was au(au)nced an hundredfold more. for he has spoused þe fairest wom(~)an þat eu(er)e was seyn. and whanne þ(e) king herde speke so muche of hire beaute: he þoughte þo þat Edel- wolde. had him desceyued and bigyled: and þoughte p(ri)ue leche in his herte þat he wolde gon in to Deuenisshire as it were for to hunt for hert and hynde and oþ(er) wilde best(es) and þanne he shulde se þ(er)e þe lady or he dep(ar)tede þennes. // And þis lady was duellynge at a manere bisides þe forest þere þat þe king wolde hunt and at þat maneere herbug hed al nyght. And whanne tyme come þat þe king shulde soupe and þe sonne shoon þe king axede aft(er) his gossib and aft(er) his godsone: and Edelwold made hire come bifore þe king. And noþeles yf it oþ(er) might haue been: she shulde nouȝt haue come in his sight by his wille // The lady welcomede þe king so swetely him kiste: and he name hire þe hande and þo next by him here sette. and so soupede þey togidre // And þo was a custome an an vsage þat whan o. man dronk vnto anoþ(er): þe drinker shulde seye. watsaile. and þ(t) oþer shulde ansuere. Drinke hail. and þus dede þe king and þe lady menye times and also kiste // And aft(er) souper whan tyme was to gon to bed þe king wente vnto his bed hertyly þenkynge vppon þe ladies fairnesse. and þo was ou(er)come for hire loue þat him þoughte he shulde dye but of hire his wille he hadde // Oppon þe morne þe king aros and into þe forest wente him þere to desporte w(t) her- tes and hyndes and alle oþ(er)e wilde bestes and of þe hertes
