Description:
The tale of how Gurmonde destroys Britain and commits genocide. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'C' introduce the tale of how King Cortif (Certif) flees to Chichestre (Chichester). The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

manye londes and toke homages and feautes of menye and so he wente by þe see fram londe to londe and conquerede diu(er)se landes so þat he com in to .Jrland. and conquerede þat lande þat ofte times werrede vppon Britou(~)s. an britou(~)s vppon ham and often wonnen and often losten and ȝeuen hostages to Britou(~)s and so þey senten to Gurmond þ(er)e þat he was in Jrland. þat he shulde come(~) in to Britaigne and helpe ham aȝens þe britou(~)s to helpe ham delyu(er)e þat lande of ham and þey wolde him holde gladly for hir lord for he was a paynyme and þey were paynymes. and þe britou(~)s were cristene. wel auȝte he þanne ham for to helpe so as þey weren of o lawe // Whenne Gurmonde herde þis p(ra)ier: he hastede him as muche as he mighte and arryuede in Scotland and com in to Northumberland þ(er)e þat þe Saxo- nes were duellyng and þey confermede þe couenauntȝ bi- twene ham þat were made by oþes and by hostages for to beren him trewe fay and halde him for to lord and paie to him trewage by ȝere // þo bigonne þe Saxones and þe. affri- cans to destroye robbe and brenne tounes. and destroye alle þing in as muchel as he mighte and sparede noþ(er) man wo(~) man ne childe. lewed ne lered þat alle þey quelde and caste adou(~) tounes and castell and churches and so pulte þey al þe lond to gret destrucciou(~) and as sone as þe might fleen: þey fledden þennes as wel pore as riche.
