no maner trust þey haue to god but onliche oppon hire strenthe Gowe now and seche ham sharpliche in þe name of almighti god: and sle we þe paynyms and cristene men þat be enemys wiþ ham for to destroie c(ri)stene men and god shal vs helpe for we haue þe right and þ(er)fore haue we good trist in god. and do we so þ(t) þ(e) enemys þat ben to c(ri)stendome and to god mo- we ben dede and destroiede and þat men mowe recorde þe worþinesse of knyghthode // Whanne king Arthur had þus sayde: þey c(ri)eden alle wiþ an hie voice. god fader almighti worshiped be þy name wiþouten ende. Amen. and g(ra)unte vs grace wel to done and to destroye oure enemys þat bene aȝens c(ri)stendome. Jn þe name of þe fader and of þe some & of þe holy goost. Amen. and god ȝeue him neu(er)e g(ra)ce ne worshipe in þe world ne mercy of him to haue: þat þis day shal feynten wel for to smyte and egrely // And so þey ri- den softely and ordeignede hire wynges wel and wisely. þe Emp(er)our herde telle þat king Arthur and his folc we- re redy arraiede for to fighte wiþ him and þider þey come were. he ordeignede his winges in þe beste manere þat he mighte: and more t(ri)ste oppon his strengthe þan in god al- mighty // and þat was seyn aftirwarde. ffor whanne þe .ij. hostes metten: þe Emp(er)our loste suche foure of his folc as dede king Arthur. and so many were slayne what in o syde and in oþ(er). þat it was gret piete to wite and to se. Jn þis bataile were slayn þorugh king Arthur .v. king(es) of þe paynyms and of oþ(er)e wonder muche peple. and king Arthures men foughten so wel þat þe Romayns and pay- nymes had nomore strengthe to wiþstonde þan .xx. shepe aȝens .v. wolfes // And so it bifel þat in þis bataile in a shour þat was wonder harde and longe durynge in þat o syde and in þat oþ(er). þe Emp(er)o(ur) amonges ham þere was slayn: but no man wiste for soþe who him slow. How king Arthur lete entere his knightes þad he had lost in þe bataile and how he sente þ(e) Emp(er)ours body to Rome þat þ(er)e was slayn in bataile Coxxiiij.vjo.
