and arryuede at Tottenesse and wente out of hire shippes and nome þe land and thene robbede it / and muche peple slough and token al þe armure þat þey mighte fynde & so þey wente forþ til þey comen to Bathe . but þe men of þe tou(~) shitten faste hire ȝates and wolde nouȝt soffre ham come wiþinne þe tou(~). and þey defendede ham wel and orpedely aȝens ham. How Arthure ȝaf bataile to þe Saxones whanne þei comen aȝen and bisegede þe tou(~)n of Bathe and ham ouercome Capitulo : lxxiiijo. Whanne .Arthure herde þis tydinge he lete honge anon(~) þe hostages. and lefte hoel of Britaigne his neuev for to kepe þe march towardes Scotland wiþ half his peple and him self wente to helpe rescue þe toun(~) of Bathe . and whan he come þeder he ȝaf a st(ro)ng bataile to Cheldrik and q(ue)lde almost al þe peple þat he hadde : for no man mighte him w(t)stande ne endure vnder þe stroke of his suerde and þ(er)e boþ(e) were slayn Coleg(re)n and Bladud his broþ(er) // And Chel drik fledde þennes and wolde haue gon to his shippes but whanne Arthure it wiste he toke .x.ml. knightes to Cador þat was Erl of Cornewaile for to lette and stoppe his comynge and Arthure him self wente aȝen toward þe march of Scotland . ffor messag(er)s tolden him þat þe Scottes hadde biseged Hoel of Britaigne þ(er)e þat he lay sike and þ(er)fore he hastede þiderwarde . and Cador pursuede after Cheldrik and toke him er þat he mighte come to his ship- pes and quelde Cheldrik and his peple and whanne Ca- dor had don þis viage he hastede him aȝen as faste as he mighte toward Arthur and fond him in Scotland þ(er)e þat he had rescued . Hoel of Britaigne : but þo Scottes were alle ferre wiþinne Mounref and þ(er)e þey helde ham a while. but Arthur ham pursuede and þey fledde þenne(s) forþ in to lymoigne þat were in þat cuntre .lx.Jles and gret plente of briddes and gret plente of Egles þat were woned to c(r)e and fighte(~) to gidres and make gret noyse
