The tale of King Lud. Red rubrication and illuminated initial ' A ' introduce the tale of Lud's brother, King Cassibalam, who twice defeated Julius Caesar. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

amendede wicked folk . þis Lud louede more to duelle at Troy þan in ony oþ(er) place of þe lande wherfore þe name of newe Troye was leste : and þo was þe citee called Ludstan . but þat name is chaunged þorugh variaunce of l(et)res and now is called Londou(~) and þis king made in þe citee a fair gate and called it Ludgate after his name . and þe folc of þe citee lete it Loundr(e)s and whanne he had regned xj ȝer. he deide and lith at Londou(~) // and he had .ij. ȝonge sones . Andraghen. and Gormace but þey couþe noþ(er) speke ne go for ȝengþe . and þ(er)fore þe Britouns crounede a st(ro)ng knyght þat me callede Lud þat was Cassibalam(us) broþ(er) and made him king of Britaigne How þe Britouns g(ra)untede to Cassibalam þat was Ludes broþ(er) þe lande in whas time Julius Cesar come . too times [...] for to conquere þe lande . After þe deþ [...] of king Lud regnede his broþ(er) Cassibalam and bicome a good man and muche biloued of his Britou(~)s so þat for his goodnesse and curtesie þey g(ra)untede him þe reaume for eu(er)more to him and to his heirs // And þe king of his goodnes lete norische worþily boþe sones þat were Lud his broþ(er)es and after made þe eldest sone Erl of Cornewaile and þat oþer Erl of Londou(~) // And while þis king Cassibalam regnede come Julius Cesar þat was Emp(er)o(ur) of Rome in to þis land with a poer of Romayns and wolde haue had þis lande þorugh strengþe : but Cassibalam him ou(er)come in bataile . þorugh helpe of þe Britou(~)s and drof him out of þis land . & he wente aȝen to Rome and assemblede gret poer an oþer tyme and come aȝen in to þis land for to ȝeue bataile to Cassibalam but he was descomfited þorugh strengþ(e) of þe Britouns and þorugh þe help of þe Erl of Cornewaile and of þe Erl of Londou(~) his broþ(er) and þorugh helpe of Gudian king of Scotland . and Corband king of North Walys and of Bretail king of South Walys . and in þis bataile was slayn Nemion þat was Cassibalams broþ(er) wherfore he made muche sorwe . and so wente Julius Cesar out of þis
