Description:
The story of King Leir (Lear) and his three daughters. Cordeill (Cordelia) marries the King of France. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial introduces the story of how Leir is driven out of his kingdom. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

erþe þat she shulde neu(er)e haue good of him : but his dough- tres loued him so muche shulde ben wel auauncede and mariede . and þe ferste doughter he mariede to mangles king of Scotlande : and þe secound he maried to Hanemos Erl of Cornewaile : and so þey ordeyned and speke bituen ham þat þey shulde dep(ar)te þe reaume bituen hem tuo . after þe deþ of Leir hir fader // So þat Cordeill his ȝongest doughter shulde no þing haue of his land . but þis Cordeill was wonder faire and of so good condiciou(~)s and maners þat þe king of ff(ra)unce Agampe here of hir speke and sente to þe king Leir hir fader for to haue hire vnto wyf and prayede him þ(er) of : and king Leir hir fader sente him word þat he hadde departed þe lande vnto his . ij . oþ(er) doughtres and sey de he ne hadde na more land wher with hir for to marien // And whanne Agampe herde þis ansuere he sente anon a ȝein to Leir and seide þat he axede no þing with here but oneliche hir cloþinge and onleche hir body . and anon king Leir hir fader sente hire ouer þe see to king of ff(ra)unce and he resceyuede hir wiþ mochil worshipp and with muche so- lempnyte hire spousede and made hire queen of ff(ra)unce . How king Leir was dryuen out of his lande þorugh his folie : and how Cordeill his ȝongest dought(er) halp him in his [ . . ] nede . Capo xiijo.: Thus it fel afterward þat þo . ij . [ . . ] eldest doughtren wolde nought abide til þat Leir hir fader was ded but werred vppon him whiles þat he leue de and moche sorwe and shame him dede . wherfore þey by nomen him holly þe reaume and bituene ham had or deynede :- þat on of ham shulde haue king Leir to soio(ur)ne al his lyf tyme with . xl . knightes and hire squiers þat he mighte worshipfully gon and ride whider þat he wolde in to what cuntrie þat him likede to pleye and to solacen . // So þat Managles king of Scotlande had king Leire with him in þe manere as is aboue saide . and or oþ(er) half ȝere were passed .
