Description:
The text begins with an initial 'H' in blue ink and there is a partial (almost full) illuminated and decorated foliate bar border. Incipt in red ink: 'Here may a (man) hure Engeland was first called Albyon and þoru(gh) wham it hadde þe name'. There is ink annotation at the top of the folio, the symbols for alpha and omega with a cross and a 'P' inbetween and 'mmm.ix.C.lxxxx' in the margin. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

Here may a man hure Engeland was first called Albyou(~) and þoruʒ (wham it hadde þe name.) [In] the noble lande of Syrrye there was a nobele kyng and mighty; and a man of gret renou(~)þat me(~) [ m m m. ixC.l.xxxx ] called Dyoclician that wel and worthily hym gouernede and re- welede thorugh his noble chiualrye; so þat he conquerede alle þe landes aboute hym so þat almost alle the kynges of the world to hym were entendaunt. Hit bifel thus þat þis Dioclici an. spousede a gentil damisel þat was wonder fair þat was his Emes doughter . labana . and she louede hym as resoun wolde ; so that he gat oppon hire .xxxiij. doughtres; of the whi che þe eldeste me callede. Albyne. and these damyselles whan þey come vnto age bicomen so faire þat it was wonder. Wherfore þis Dioclician anon let make a somonynge and com(~)aund by his lettres þat alle þe kynges þat helden of hy(~) shulden come by a certayn day ; as in his lettres was contey- ned to make a real feste . At whiche day þider þey comen and broughte with ham Amyrall . Princes . and dukes . & noble chyularye . þe feste was really arrayed and þere they leuede in ioye and merthe y nough þat it was wonder to wite . and hit bifel þus þat þis Dioclician þouʒte marien his doughtres among alle þo kynges . þat þo were at that so lempnyte; and so þey speken and dede; þat Albyne his eldest douʒt(er) & alle hire sustres richely were mariede vnto xxxiij. king(es) þ(t) were lordes of gret hono(ur) also poer at þi(s) sole(~)pnite & whanne þe sole(~)pnite was done ; euery kynge nome his wyf and lad ham in to hire owen cuntree and þere made ham quene . and it bifel þus afterwad þat þis dame Albyne; bycome so stoute and so sterne þat she tolde litel prys of hire lorde and of hym hadde scorn and despite and wolde nought done his wille but wolde haue hire owene wille in dyu(er)se maners . and alle hire oþ(er)e sustres eu(er)ychon bere ham so euele aʒens here lordes : þat it was wonder to wite. and for as muche as ham þouʒt nought þat hire hosebondes were nouʒt of so hye p(ar)age comen as hir fader // But þo kynges
