Description:
Gospel of John: chapters nineteen and twenty. A pen-flourished initial 'F' in blue and red ink introduces the next chapter. The side of Jesus is pierced with a spear to make sure that he is dead and blood and water comes out. Joseph of Arimathea asks Pilate for the body of Jesus and he and Nicodemus anoint, wrap and bury the body in a new tomb. Mary Magdalene goes to the grave of Jesus after the Sabbath and finds the stone rolled away from the entrance and the tomb empty. Mary goes to the disciples and tells them that body has gone and they run to the tomb to find it empty. Mary weeps at the side of the grave and Jesus appears to her but she does not recognise him. The written space is c. 207 x 133 mm in two columns.
